FIRES.
(Per Proas Association.) Christchurch, January 3. A fire occcurred in premises near the corner of Colombo and Armagh streets this morning, the building being one of the oldest in Christchurch. The promptness with which the brigade attended prevented extensive damage. The building was owned by J. C. Maddison and insured in the London and Lancashire Office for £-100. The contents of Sharman’s pork butchery shop were insured in the Standard Office for £l5O, and the contents of Martin’s pastry-cook shop for £75 in the Phoenix Office.. Last night a fire, occurred in prbmises in Sydenham owned and occupied by Vogan Baker. A portion only was severely damaged. _ The building was insured in the Victoria Office for £-100 and the contents' iu the same office for £465.
