THE DECE.MBER RECORDS. “THE RAIN IT RAINETH EVERY DAY”—NEARLY It will surprise few wlio have been in Stratford {luring the past month to learn that the rainfall for the month is a record unsurpassed for the last twenty-seven years. The only surprising part of it is that the official recorder (Mr T. H. Penn) states that there were eight days on which rain did not fall. It is difficult, however, to remember them. The following is a summary of the official returns for the past year;—-
In December rain fell on twentythree days, and on six clays the rainfall exceeded an inch, there being two days ou which two inches fell, the maximum being: December 23th on which 'there fell '2.58 indies of rain, this being also the heaviest fall for the year. 'At Inglewood during the month there were eight, days ou which no rain was recorded, though of tlie fallsrecorded eight were under a quarter of an inch. There were, falls confinuously from the 11th to the 21st, but there were only two of over an inch. ’The greatest falls were:—sth l.SSin., 9th 1:36in., 17th 1.47 in., 21st I.ODin., 21th 1.10 in., 27th 3.48 in., 23th- 2.35 in. The Inglewood figures for the year, as supplied by Miss N. Trimble, are as follows:
Totals ... 89.86 .173 The greatest fall for the year was 3.96 in. on July 9th. The rainfall for Eltham for‘'the month of December amounted to 7.83 inches. Rain was recorded on 21 days, the maximum fall being 1.49 inches on the 17th. The aggregate rainfall for the year 1911 was 56.19 inches. Rain fell on 168' days. Greatest Since 1849.
