POLITICAL SITUATION.
OPPOSITION CONFERENCE. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, January 2. Mr. W. F. Massey, Leader of the Opposition, and Mr ..las. Allen, M.P., were in town to-day and had a private conference wvtli other members of the Opposition who happen to he here in the holidays. Mr. Allen returns Smith either to-night or tomorrow, and Mr. Massey goes North in the course of a few days. THE PRIME MINISTER. Wellington, January 2. The Prime Minister leaves Wellington to-morrow evening for tho South.
