The Wellington Rifle Association’s first annual meeting opened at Trentham to-day. "prevailed throughout the day, causing a good deal of trouble to the marksmen. Gunner E. Ballinger, No. 9 Garrison Artillery (Territorials) and ex-New Zealand champion, J. W. Milroy (Nelson), both shot well, the first named making 48 out of 50 at. 300, and 49 out of 50 at 500. At matches at 300, 500 and 600 yards, Ballinger and Milroy made the same aggregate (136), and in the shoot-off to decide the winner of the trophies, Milroy won. Ho receives Walker and Hall’s trophy, and Ballinger the Licensed Victualler Association’s trophy. The conditions prescribed that the latter could not be held by a man residing outside of the Wellington district. The meeting concludes to-morrow.

Christchurch, Saturday Night. The Canterbury Association’s second tournament concluded to-day. There was a record entry and much interest was shown in the competition. T. E. Chambers (Sumner) won the Canterbury championship, Miss L. Rutherford the Canterbury ladies’ championship. The club pairs was won by H .A. Penn and Miss L. Rutherford (United). Timaru, Last Night.

The very lino morning encouraged crowds to come to town for the holidays. Consequently there was a large,, attendance at the Caledonian sports and Caroline Bay was thronged! At the boxing tournament to-night a very line contest was witnessed between Lister (Timaru) and Boreham (Otago champion) middle-weights. It was a clean, square go, Lister winning on points. In the feather-weight division, Armstrong (Dunedin) met Bennett (Timaru). The former gave in, as his ribs were bent in the third round. In the heavy-weight go, Mathewson (Otago champion), who played himself out early, got so punished that be gave in in the fifth round. Some local light-weights filled up tlio programme.
