CHESS CONGRESS.

(Per Press Association.) Napier, December 31. The annual tournament for the chess championship was continued on Saturday. Play in the fifth i-mni was resumed. The games Jones v. Hicks, and Grierson v. Mason wcie drawn, while Connell v. Kelung was unfinished. Saturday afternoon and evening wore devoted to completion of the adjourned games, which, through being stubbornly contested, required a third sitting. Kclleway was party to no fewer than four > f these. Hicks beat Rolling (adjourned fn.m first round). Rolling beat James (adjourned from second , round). Jourdain and Jones played a draw (adjourned from second round). Hicks and James played a draw (adi mimed from third round). Jourdain and Miles played a draw (adjourned from the fourth round).
