r i he proximity of our local races was called to mind this morning by the Now Plymouth train bringing to Stratford a number of the horses which ran at the Taranaki Jockey Club’s meeting. , It is not generally known, but racehorses under certain conditions are carried free of charge one way on the railways.
" Training operations will commence as soon as tlie weather allows. This year the acceptances have heeu particularly good. The excellence of h-i'. Hcnrys’ handicapping is noticeaide in Stratford Hurdles, in which all off the seventeen horses nominated have accepted, and in the Stratford Cup, in which all the horses, save one, which has left the district, have accepted. , Given tine weather, the meeting should he a record one.
