SWIMMING.
the season SUCCESSFULLY OPENED. A PLEASANT AFTERNOON. There was only a small attendance, made np chiefly of young people, at the school baths yesterday afternoon when a small meeting was held to serve to open the baths for the season. Mr. E. B. Stohr framed the handicaps with a remarkable degree of nicety and also carried out the duties of starter and timekeeper to everybody’s satisfaction. Dr. Carbery and Mr. AV. P. Kirkwood acted as judges and Mr R H. Kivell was übiquitous as steward. . .
In addition to a boys* race, a .men’s race and a relay race, there were Corfu diving, springboard diving, and plate diving competitions. In the Corfu, Masters and H. E. Kivell tied for first place, with a fine long dive. The chute was made good use of, and provided excellent amusement for performers and spectators alike. The water was by no means cold, and with a few fine days, there should soon be a fair number attending the baths daily. Details of the races are as follows: —
