WOODYILLE MEETING

Thesummer meeting of the Woodville Jockey Club started to-day under very unfavourable weather conditions. The rain started about 11 o’clock, and when the first race started it was corning down in sheets. Rain continued during the first three races, when jihbN sky :• cleared and' the sun shone brightly, but a heavy wind blew for the remainder of the afternoon. The attendance was satisfactory, but- -wa§- -greatly affected by the rough ”.4ather. ' i ' The silent tote was used for the first time, and the sum of £7l72_.was., put-.through,, which is over £IOOO more than the corresponding day of last year. Results:— Hack Handicap.—Jargon 1, Melologue2,. Overheard 3. Meremere led for most of the journey, but in the straight the placed horses fought the battle out, leaving Jargon an easy winner by two lengths, 1.34. Scratched: Attention, Ladrone, Adare, Pukewai, Royal ArmsrCorridtmiT Mallow, Plantation and Tnatahi.
Woodville Handicap.—British Maid 1, Voetgang 2, Coromandel 3. British Maid took possession at tho start, and led the field right home, winning by two lengths. Time, 2.14 3-5. Scratched: Equitas, eßftort, Sfea -Pink, ’Royal San Lass;: Flying Hack Handicap.—Florence Nightingale 1, Taft 2, Turna 3. Taft and Crown Pearl led right into the straight. Taft assumed command and challenged by Florence Nightingale these two raced' together within a few yards of the post, when the little mare forged ahead and won by a good length. Time, 1.20. Scratched: Makara, Meremere, Monologue, Wild Lupin, Ebonite, Sanguinary, Millbanks, Sir Donald, Plautadci;, Lend Kilchcran, and Lord Palmer. Borough Handicap.—Splash 1, Midnight Sun 2, Cork 3. After the start Seaton Dale led for a couple of furlongs. Then Midnight Sun wc: to the front and looked all over a winner, but 'Splash came through and won by a good length. Time, i.JU. Scrached: Effort, - Master Sylvia, Con the Shaughraun, Starboard, Royal Marine, Waiouru, Queen of Scots, and Remission.
Welter Hack Handicap.—Plantation 1, Sir Knox 2, Loch Mabin 3. The horses were well hunched for some distance down the straight, when Plantation asserted himself, and won by two lengths, a length separating second an dthird. Time, 1.50 2-5. Scratched: Otahu, Fleet Week, Mira, Waitoto, Harekoa, and Allure. Electric Handicap.—Gold Battery 1, Master Sylvia 2, Bow Bells 3. Taft led the field most ( of the distance. Then Gold Battery and Master Sylvia left the field and reached home nock and neck, the former getting the verdict by half a head, third horse two lnc"ths away. Time, d. 4 1-5. Scratched: Naumai, Gladiole, Sea Queen, Khamsin, British Maid, Hinekorargii Overtime and Mores. WOODVILLE MEETING. Woodville, December 11. The weather for the second day of the Woodville meeting was very much improved, although a high wind was blowing. The attendance was satisfactory. Results: — Telegraph Hack.—Sinapis 1, Sanguinary 2, Gay Lawless 3. Won by half a length. Time, Imin 3 2-sscc. Scratched: Taft, Allurement, Overheard. TAKAPUNA MEETING. Auckland, December 10. The second day’s racing of the Takapuna Jockey Club was concluded yesterday. There was a large attendance. Results:— Rakinoa Handicap/of 100 sovs; 4 furlongs.—Lannacost 7.9 (Hall) 1, Indulgence 7.5 2, Semolina 7.6 3. Also started: Dido, Erry Oge, Monolinc, Salvannie. Won by two lengths. Time, 1.10 2-5. Cautley Handicap, of 100 sovs.— Miss Livonia 7.1 (O’Shea) 1, Lady Dot 7.4 2, Lucille 7.0 3. Also started: Worcester, Condamine and Peggy Pryde. Won by half a length. Time, 1.10 2-5.
