(Per Press Association.) Eketahuna, November 29. A poll of ratepayers yesterday carried a proposal to borrow £13,000 for water supply and fire prevention purposes, by 107 to 56. Carterton, November 29. A public meeting on the licensing question was held here last night, at which several Masterton business men spoke on the good effects of No-Lic-ense in Masterton. At the close of the meeting the following resolution was put: "That this large and representative audience of Carterton citizens having heard the convincing statement by Masterton business men on the good effects of No-License in Masterton, declares its intention of supporting No-License at the coming poll." The motion was carried unanimously. Wellington, November 29. A fire at 1 o'clock occurred this morning in the two-storeyed building on Thorndon Quay occupied by the A. and Pi Food Co. It started in the engine-room, and spread' to the second floor and roof. The brigade quickly subdued the fire. The damage is not extensive. Insurances: Building, £IOOO in the London and Lancashire; stock, £1245 in the National. The cause is supposed to be the overheating of the exhaust pipe from the gas engine.
