Mr David Crewe, of Pahiatua, who, with Mrs. Crewe, has just returned from a twelve months’ tour of Britain and Europe, is now on a visit to Stratford as the guest of Mrs. Crowe’s mother (Mrs. Orbell). Mr. and Mrs. Crewe both enjoyed excellent health, and had a very pleasant (time abroad. They were through Italy, Germany, and France, and Mr, Crewe spent some time in looking into labour conditions in these countries. He returns to New Zealand fully convinced that this is the best country in the world for the working man and the small farmer, but it is highly essential that we should fill up tiie waste places of the Dominion with population, and the farmers must, Mr. Crewe says, do their share in turning out their produce in the most perfect manner, observing the greatest care in its manufacture, so that we may maintain a premier place in the world’s great markets. Speaking of restrictions under which dairymen work in New Zealand, Mr. Crewe says they are absolutely nothing to the very drastic regulations under which continental dairymen are compelled to work, and altogether we have very little to Complain about, and, in fact, could do with some stricter regulations as regards the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of our dairies, before we were kept as closely to the mark as we should be. Mr. D. Hyndman’s trotting stalnion “Baron D” had the misfortune to receive a kick on the stifle a few days ago, which left him very lame, and may possibly prevent the horse being shown at the Stratford Show.
