CHILD BURNED TO DEATH

(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, November 26. A distressing accident, ending fatally, occurred at Lower Harbour on Wednesday night. Mrs C. H. Pickering, while holding her four months’ ola child in her arms ,took a lit and fell into the kitchen fire. They were alone in the house. Both she and the child were severely burned. On Thursday they were removed to the cottage hospital at Port Chalmers, and yesterday morning the child died. Mrs' Pickering’s injuries are not of a serious nature. \Mr Graham, Coroner, held an inquest this forenoon touching the death of the child, and a verdict was returned that death was due to shock resulting from burns accidentally received. TERRITORIAL SOLDIER FATALLY HURT. Wellington, November 23. Vernon Richardson, a driver of the “D” Battery of the R.F.T.A., was driving along the Hutt road on Saturday afternoon with other members of tne Battery, when he fell off his horse, and a wheel of the vehicle passed over the lower part of Richardson’s body, causing severe injuries. He died in the hospital to-day. Deceased was a single man, and was engaged as a chemist’s assistant. DEATH FROM HEART FAILURE. Christchurch, November 26. William O’Rourke, 75 years of age, a farmer residing at Swannanoa, was found dead in his house at 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon 1 . Death is upposed to be due to heart failure. DROWNED WHILE BATHING. Dunedin, November 27. Robert Ralph, aged sixteen, son of Walter Miller, tram conductor, was drowned at Ocean Beach on Saturday afternoon.
