A STUPID STORY.

(To the Editor, “Stratford Post.”) Sir, —As a recdnt arrival in this electorate I am not personally acquainted with either of the candidates for this constituency. My reason for troubling you is that I have always been a supporter of the Liberal Government, but in every instance when 1 record my vote 1 place the Christian character of the candidate I vote for before his politics. I was informed that Mr. McClnggagc is a Freethinker, and 1 am much concerned as to whether this is so or not. Will you kindly enlighten me? As a follower of lesus Christ I could never associate His work while on this earth with the manner of living of those who mostly make up the Conservative element in the politics, of this country. In my long experience of the game of politics as practised by the different parties hero in New Zealand, the want of genuine sympathy on the part of the wealthy classes who are the back-bone of the Opposition, for those less fortunate than themselves : n worldly goods, render it imperative for those that lead the life that He would have us lead, sharing the sorrows of the downtrodden by trying to relieve them of some of the burdens of this life, should exercise our vote in this election for the party’s candidate which party has done so much in putting on the statute honk legislation which can rightly he termed Godly. With all my heart I wish Mr McClnggagc success, hnt if 1 was rightly informed that lie is a Freethinker, then it would deeply pain me not to record my vote.—-I am, etc., A CHRISTIAN IN POLITICS. [Mr McClnggagc is an odlcc-hearor in the Stratford Presbyterian Church. —Fd. “Stratford lVst.' ; !
