CLOSER SETTLEMENT

The Lands Department report that the closer settlement scheme to March 31st shows 1356 farms, embracing 617,396 acres, were selected, on which 5000 persons were residing. The value of improvements and machinery was £628,000. The estates acquired hy the Government for closer settlement to June 30th last cost £2,513,000. THE ELECTORAL BILL. Price, whose license was recently withdrawn hy Archbishop Donaldson, Brisbane, is responsible For a remarkable statement that a great many clergymen do not believe m the divinity of Church, and the inspiration ol the Bible. They did not openly preach these views or secede from a (Lurch, because their bread and butter depended on their positions.
