A TRAMWAY TROUBLE.

DISMISSED SERVANT APPEALS

A sitting of the Tramway Appeal Board was held to-day to_ consider an appeal by John Fitzpatrick, conductor on the city electric trams, against bis dismissal. Fitzpatrick was dismissed on September 1 for an unsatisfactory record, especially on the ground that he made a serious charge without the slightest Inundation against Inspector Golden, and that he made a contradictory statement to the manager (Mr Alexander). The board was composed of Mr I!. ). Widdowson, SAL (chairman), Councillors J. J. Marlow (representing the Tramways Department), and W . Belcher (representing the Tramways Lnion). The facts were tthat one morning two girls over-rode the distance for which they had paid, and this was discovered by the inspector when he hoarded the car. In his report. Fitzpatrick accused Inspector Golden of making a false statement when ho slid one girl paid by means of a concession ticket. It was also admitted that the appellant made contradictory statements to the manager over the matter. Fitzpatrick had been twice proviouly dismissed, once ior drunkenness, and on a second occasion for breaking bis promise to abstain from liquor. Tho appellant said he considered that Inspector Golden had on a previous occasion done his best to get him dismissed. He contended that the punishment was too severe.
