RAILWAYMEN THREATEN TO STRIKE. London, October IG. A mass meeting of Sheffield railwaymen resolved to strike unless the Midland Company fulfils the whole terms of settlement instead of, as alleged, penalising prominent strikers. TELEGRAPHISTS’ STRIKE. Sydney, October 16. The enforcement of the broken shift, ivbich led to the threatened strike of telegraphists, has been postponed to allow the new Postmaster-General to become seized of the situation. He has arranged an interview with tho officials of the Telegraphists’ Association. Melbourne, October 17. A conference of the Commonwealth Post and Telegraph Association has been opened. It was unanimously agreed to support tho New South Wales protest against broken hours. TELEGRAPHISTS’ TROUBLES. Sydney, October IG. The Postmaster-General received a deputation from tho Telegraphists’ Association and discussed the trouble. Fie promised operators a fair deal, but would not be bluffed to give an answer to the demands until after fuller consideration. SHORTAGE OF LABOUR. (Received 17, 8.55 a.m.) Sydney, October 17. A deputation of boilermakers and shipbuilders, accompanied by eighty unemployed, protested against tho labour shortage report. Tho Premier promised to consult tho union secretaries before acting. Melbourne, October 17. During the week 500 implement makers have been discharged owing to lack of work. The union is urging this as a reason against the importation of skilled workers.
