BOWLING.

(By “Toucher.”) I am credibly informed that fully sixteen new members have joined the club this season, some of whom it may be reasonably expected have had previous encounters with Kitty, and possibly have stolen or otherwise obtained a “kiss” or two from that fascinating but wayward lass. For various reasons, the Stratford Bowling Club has during tho past two seasons lost some valuable players, and there will be difficulty in coming contests to pick out more than two or three strong rinks to do battle in inter-club matches; but that is not a serious matter so long as members can have a good time on their own green Tney can afford to wait a season or so, when no doubt those who are now but beginners will be able to take the place of those who have gone. The groat secret of bowls, like all other amusements, is to play the game as near as possible as it should tie played ; but this can bo done much better by cracking a joke with other players than bv going about with a face as long as a fiddle, and acting for all the world like mutes. Fun—real fun—is what will make the game cf bowls go down. Without merriment one might just as well take a blue pill and black draught and stay at home. In order to give encouragement to newly-joined members, I understand that Mr. George Smart will donate a pair of bowls for competition. It is also on the cards that a Wellington firm will give a pair of howls for competition by club members, and the suggestion has been thrown out that those who do not care to take part in the championship matches shall have a chance of playing for this special. Next, please!
