As a further evidence of the practical service which the installation of wireless telegraphy plant on our steamers iias become, it is stated that the Union Steam Ship Company’s Maheno made very good use of her wireless installation on the last run from Sydney to New Zealand and back. On the outward run communication was maintained during the whole voyage, and advantage was taken by passengers of sending radiograms to Australia and New Zealand. The “Maheno "Wire-less-Budget” was published daily, containing the latest world’s news. While berthed at the Queen-street wharf, Auckland, the operator held communication with the company’s station at the Hotel Australia, Sydney; the steamer Cooma, near Townsville, Queensland; the steamer Marama, between Suva and Auckland; Suva sta.tion; Wellington station; and the steamer Ulimaroa, at the Bluff; while the day previous the steamer Kyarra was picked up in South Australian waters. Under ordinary conditions the instrument has a range of 2009 miles. On the inward trip the steamer was also in touch' with Australia and New Zealand throughout. The Maheno is the first of the Auckland-Syd-ney boats to he fitted with wireless, hut the Victoria and Wimmera will receive their outfits in a very short while. The latest New Zealand liner equipped is the Moana. The Atua .rad Tofua will be equipped at once.
