(Per Press Association.)
Hastings, October 5
His Excellency, displaying that interest in agriculture which is so pleasing and encouraging to those engaged in farming pursuits, made a special request that lie should be personally introduced to as many fanners as possible during his stay in Hawke’s Bay. Mr. G. \\ Donnelly, president of the ■Jockey Club, during an interval in tho racing yesterday, called together tiie farmers assembled'.on the racecourse, and afforded His Excellency the opportunity ho desired. Lord Islington, m a brief address, congratulated them on- the happy and prosperous appearance of the country ami the people, and tho high state agriculture bad reached. Tire herds and flocks he had soon equalled any found in any part •>!’ the world. As time went on they might expect keen competition in the disposal of products, but increased scientific methods of ianniiig would ensure success. He advised thorn not to put all their eggs in the one basket. The grower of fruit should also be a small farmer. Ho rejoiced to
come to Hawke’s Bay among warmhearted farmers and loyal citizens — loyal to the country, to Imperialism, and to the King.
