A thousand bags of the Taviuni’s copra has been salved. The divers are temporarily repairing the vessel with a view to raising her. The underwriters are calling tenders for the purchase of the cargo.

Tho observatory lias received a cable from Kiel, Germany, notifying the discovery of a new bright comet. •
MAWSON ’S EXPEDITION
(Received 5, 9.30 a.m.) Adelaide, October 5
Tho initial liight of Mawson’s aeroplane lasted twenty minutes. Lieut. Watkins, tho aviator, was overcome with petrol fumes, and landed suddenly in a dazed condition. The machine. struck a post, and was slightly damaged.
