Sydney, October 4. Tho third day of tho *A.J .C. meeting was again favoured witli line weather, and a largo attendance. Results ;
Second Hurdles.—Jules, 10.9, 1 ; Ennisbello, 12.13, 2 ; Fiddlestring, 10.6, 3. There wore ton starters, including Pakau. Won by a length, six lengths between second and third.' Pakau fell. Time, 4in in 46 i sec. Craven Plate—Lady Medallist (Barnett), 8.13, 1; Malt King (Black), 9.4, 2; Aurofodina (Smith), 9.0, 3. Eleven starters. Cisco jumped to the front, followed by Malt King, Beverage, and 1 idlio. )\ lien settled down, Comedy King took charge from Cisco, Beverage and Malt King being the nearest attendants. Cisco was again in front at tho nine furlong post, and at tho six furlongs was one length in front if Beverage, with Aurofodina, Comply King, Los Angelos, and Lady Mela! list in that order. There was little change at the half-mile, except that Bevel age ran second, with Malt King in third place. Aurofodina showed tho way round the bend well into the straight from Cisco, Bevmage, Comedy King and Lady Medalist. llelow the Leger Lady Medallist put in a claim, and getting a clear run on the rails, landed a clever victory by half a length from Malt King, with Aurofodina a length away third. Remedy King was fourth, and Los Vngolos finished in the ruck. Time, 2min 6Usee, Suburban Handicap.—Lager, 8.1, I ; Kurangai, 8.4, 2; Baudoii Lad, 8.0, !. There wore sixteen starters, including Sharpshooter, Chaste, and Tull Sail. Blairgour and Volsliono together made the running well into tho straight. The placed horses got together at the distance, and after a rood finish Lager won by a neck, a length between second and third. Cimo, Imin 38tsec. Grantham Stakes.—Ladies’ Man 1,. Popinjay 2, Modoc 3. Nine starters, including Peircne. The quickest to novo were Bunbury, Malt Blossom, and Popinjay. Tho last-named took ’ominand before the six furlong post was reached, and led into the straight Roar of St. Modoc and Ladies’ Man. iia winner came with a rush at the jeger, and after a clattering finish, von by a head. St. Modoc was a good third. Time, 1 Imin 40isee. Gimcrack Stakes.—Ventura 1, Simmcrer 2, Aurifer 3. There were wenty-six starters. Tho race needs ittle description. Tripple was the list to show out, but Ventura almost mine cl lately took charge and led •ound to the bend and into the straight, and was never overhauled. The winner was well ridden by Meuacblan, and won by two lengths, Aurifer a length away third. Time, 5 Usee. Sydney Handicap.—Colrna, 6.13, 1 ; \Voad, 7.8, 2 : Duke Foote, 10.0, 3'. A rpod finish. Won by a neck, half a length between second and third. Time, 2miu 34i|sec. Eleven started.

Mr. Flowers promised a deputation representing the racing associations lo submit to Cabinet their request for cgalising the totalisator. (Received o, 8.50 a.m.) Sydney, October 5.
Mr. Flowers told the deputation that ho preferred the tote to bookmakers if convinced that it would limt gambling. The public would have a letter run for their money. Ho expressed surprise at a statement that per cent, deduction from the tote receipts would yield over the half mil'ion required for the maintenance of hospitals. The gambling turnover must lie terrible. Ho considered it positively scandalous that women ;hould be allowed to bet.

A bolting horse caused disorder in the procession. At cries of “A bomb!” the onlookers were panic-stricken and fled shrieking. Several were injured. Ministers persuaded M. Fal'licrcs to shelter behind a street lamp until ( the broken lino of police and troops' was resided. Meanwhile ministers, senators, and deputies addressed and reassured the crowd. At the church congress at Stoke-on-Trent, Dr. Higgle, Bishop of Carlisle, in an address on “Clericalism,” said it was a canker which many countries were ruthlessly abolishing by a- process painful, but inevitable and necessary.
Dr. Ingram, Bishop of London, considered it equally critical that tho church war, taking no heed cf the passionate desire for a heaven on earth, which was the basis of the labour movement. Tiie latter was definitely a religious movement. The reason of the Church of England’s want of influence was because it was still a class church, and was apt to like the poor so long as they kept their proper nlacos.
