THE STRANDED CARLA. (Per Press Association.) Wanganui, September 22. There is nothing fresh to report regarding the stranded Carla. ENCOURAGING LOCAL INDUSTRY Dunedin, September 22. The Harbour Board to-night considered tenders for a new tug. There were twelve tenders, eight from firms in the Old Country, two from firms in China, and two from local firms. The tenders ranged from £18,500 to £21,000, and it was eventually agreed to accept, the tender of Messrs Stevenson and Cook, of Port Chalmbers, at £22,778, with a proviso that the tug bo built locally. A MUSICAL GENIUS. Wanganui, September 22. Tho name of Haydn Bock, tho wonderful youthful violiiust, has been before the public of New Zealand and Australia* for a considerable time. A large meeting to-night decided to make a big effort to send the boy Homo to a European master. Mr Lewis Coben related Charles Schilsky’s opinion of Haydn Beck, whom lie had heard. In his opinion, it was a crime that Haydn Beck was not sent, Home years ago. There was not one of the greatest teachers in Europe who would turn Ids back on the boy. Schilsky had soon in- Haydn Beck pot inti uitms of personality, interpretation and power that wore utterly surprising and which should give' him a chance of being among the great violinists of the day. Schilsky added: “If I could afford it I would take the boy Home.” It is hoped that New Zealanders will help to give a chance to one who bids fair to bring distinction to the Dominion. A pathetic feature is that Mrs Beck has broken down in health, largely as the result of her efforts to raise funds for her talented little lad.
