A proposal to -raise ' a ' loan' of £IO,OOO for a gravitation water supply from Duusdale, 19 miles from town, was the, subject of a pull of ratepayers to-day. The total sum is £35,000, including the estimated cost of the reticulation of .the on Living areas..,i The proposal was 'defeated by 891 to 596, only 1505 out of 5000 voting. The Council takes this as an indication of the feeling of the ratepayers and will push on ,mmediately with the work of extending the existing pumping scheme, which is estimated to cost £50,000.
