FRENCH FOOD RIOTS.
DRAGOONS ATTACKED'' WITH USCYTHES. Paris, September 14. Dear food rioters, armed with scythes, marched in the Meuse 'Valley, ■lit the dragoons dispersed them near Charlcville. There were similar encounters. with troops in other towns, larticularly at Criel, near Chantilly', .ere the troops were pelted with •ricks and broken bottles. - Fifteen soldiers were badly injured. The Riot Act was read, and the cavalry' charged with drawn swords, and routed the crowd! Forty Criel rioters were injured. Incendiaries burnt,, nine mills at Tourcoing, containing cereals. The housewives at Longwy thrashed i dealer for selling bad egos. A hostile, crowd at St. Pierre Log!;se met. the Socialist agitators at the station and severely beat them with sticks. .- The Confederation of Labour is circularising conscripts urging them not to fire’ on civilians. ’ The Minister, for Agriculture reports that the corn crop is 2.1 i per cent, above that of 1910, and that there is sufficient to supply the whole of the- country. Owing to the expensive fodder, farmers are likely to prefer to grow cattle, for the market, hence the price, of meat is diminishing.
