CHADIPIONSHIP M EETING. (For Press Association.) Wanganui, September 6. Glorious weather was experienced today, when the New Zealand Golf Championship meeting, which is being held on Belmont, links, was continued. The day’s programme was opened by D. McCormick, J. Goss, jun., and F. W. Seifert, playing over six holes to decide who should qualify for the amateur championship, having tied for the thirty-second place in the qualifying rounds of the open championship. At tho fourth hole, Goss was bunkered and lost, three, strokes, thus falling out of the running. Seifert and McCormick continued to tho eighth hole, where tho latter made a deciding score. THE PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. The first round oU the professional championship was then started, only two'pairs being drawn. Keen interest was taken in the‘match between J. C. Johnson and J. McCormick, both of whom, but especially Johnson, had been showing excellent form, though both men played very fine games. McCormick showed particularly good form, and beat his opponent 4up and 3to play. W. McEwan, a local professional, after a very close and exciting match with Butters, beat the Invercargill professional by 2 up and 1 to play. AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP. The second round will bo played tomorrow. The first, round of the amateur championship was productive of some excellent golf. Quite a number ot good cards were handed in. Special mention must bo made of the match between Kapi Tareba and Imlay Saunders. Tareba, who had been playing splendidly, was in particularly good form, and it is almost certain that, had he played out the round he would have established a record for tho links. Sixteen boles were done in 65, and if, as is commonly done, and as Kapi did bogey after he bad holed out in 4 for each of tho remaining holes, lie would have finished in 73. Following are the results:—D. S. Duncan beat L. Seifert, 5 up and 4 to play; J. Forbes beat, J. Cameron, 3 up and 2 to play; Kapi Tareba beat Imlay Saunders, 3 up and 2 to play; B. L. Taylor boat E. Smith, 6 up and 4 to play; A.' L. Kidstono beat J. Park, 4 up and 3 to play; C. W. Rattray beat P. Trolovc, 1 up at the 19th bole; J. C. Burns beat I). McCormick, 4 up and 1 to play; G. M. Dodgshun beat G. M. Pharazyn, 2 up K. Duncan beat 1). Prydo, 3 up and 2 to play; H. ,E. Wright beat G. Saunders, 2 up and 1; H. B. Lusk beat J. C. Bidwell, up and 5; H. I\i.. Lutterworth beat C. A. Seymour, 4 up and 3; C. St. G. Gore beat R. 1). Wybouruo, ] up; R. H. Balneavis beat H. G. Didsbury, 3 up and 2 to play; H. Lewis beat B. I. Smith, I up at the 19th hole.
