VALEDICTORY.
A farewell social and presentation was tendered at the Toko Road Hall last night to Mr. and Mrs. A. Campbell, on the eve of their departure from this district. About one hundred settlors were present, and a most enjoyable evening was spent in song, dancing, and card playing. About 11 o’clock a nice supper was handed round, provided by the ladies, after which Mr, Marfell, in a few well-chosen words, expressed the regret of the settlers at losing Mr. and Mrs. Campbell and family from the district; and on behalf of the settlers he presented Mr. Campbell with a Gladstone bag and Mrs. Campbell with a dressing-case and travelling rug. Speeches appropriate to the occasion wore also made by Mr. Bocock and Mr. E. Jackson, who spoke in eulogistic terms of the sterling qualities of the departing settlers. The remarks made were responded to by Mr. Campbell in very feeling terms on behalf of himself and family. Mrs. Campbell also expressed her appreciation of the presentation, and her regret at leaving the district. Solos were sung by Mrs. Kennedy and Mrs. Fieldes and Mr. May. Messrs. Wade and Songster contributed some select bagpipe music, Mr. Wade also dancing a Highland fling and sword dance. Miss McDonald, of Stratford, kindly offered her services as pianist for the dancing, her playing being very much appreciated. The company departed for homo about 2.30 a.m., everyone expressing delight at the evening’s entertainment, ' voting it one of the best over held on the Toko Road. .
