KOHURATAHI NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) At the social and dance on July 2Sth given to farewell the bridge-builders, who have just finished the bridge over tho Tangarakau, at Kohnratahi Road, presentations were made to Mr. and Mrs. W. Aylward by the settlers and bridge men. Mr. Aylward was presented with a case of gold-mount-ed pipes, and Mr. Aylward presented with a silver teapot and sugarbasin. Mr. K. Wyatt, on behalf of tho settlors, spoke eloquently of the solitude and hardships of most hush settlors, but Mr. Aylward’s homestead had been a homo to them all—a place where the settlers had spent, and he 4 hoped, would spend, many pleasant times. The presentation, he said, was cade in slight recognition of the many kindnesses and hospitality the settlers had received at their hands. Mr. A. Kagonson spoke on behalf of tho bridge men, saying that they wished to recognise in some small way the fi ier.dship that had been extended to them all during the building of the bridge. The recipients suitably responded. Tiie social passed off well, dancing being kept up till nearly daylight.
