PEDLARS’ STRIKE. Now York, July 27. A pedlars’ strike is in progress in Chicago against the anti-noise ordinance, "and has resulted in riots. Aomen carrying babies took a prominent part. The police, drawing revolvers, charged the crowd, who were stoning an anti-strike pedlar. Scores were injured, and three police were taken to the hospital. THE COCAINE HABIT. Ottawa, July 27. The cocaine habit is spreading in several cities of Canada. One hundred and fifty arrests have been made_ in Montreal in a year, of persons using or selling the drug. BRITISH TREASURY RETURNS. London, July 27. A Treasury return shows that last vear England contributed towards the Imperial expenditure 90.53 per cent.. Scotland 9.2 per cent., and Ireland 0.25 per cent. England contributed to the revenue 84.36 per cent., Scotland 9.86 per cent., and Ireland 5,78 per cent. England’s local expenditure was 73.19 per cent., Scotland's 11.03, and, Ireland’s 15.78. INDIAN PRINCE’S GIFT. London. July 2S._ The Maharajah of Gwalior has given to the King £BOOO as a Coronation gift. The King has devoted it to King Edward’s Hospital Fund, Army and Navy charities, the Fresh Air Fund, and the Ragged School Union. FATAL CORDITE EXPLOSION. London, July 27. Three were killed and eleven seriously iuiured by an explosion in amixing shed at the Cliffo Cordite Factoiy 7 at Rochester. The shed was blown to atoms. Ten similar deaths have occurred at Cliffc during the decade.
