THIRD GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Stratford and Waimate, who on the previous Thursday had played a drawn game at Kaponga, met, yesterday at Hawera to decide the third grade championship. Waimate won by three points to nil, the score consisting of a penalty goal, which was kicked half way through the second spell. The Stratford boys held the advantage in the first spell, aiid in the first part of the second spell, but were playing without luck or they would have scored. During the game three balls were burst, and the last five minutes of the game were played with a slack Mr. Alex Hunter acted as referee. CLIFTON (16) v. STAR (5.) This game was played at Waftara yesterday, and decided the northern! championship. For the winners tries were scored by Goodwin (2), Crowley, and Kyle, two of the tries being converted by George. For Star Bellringer scored a try which was converted by Hill. Mr. F. Spurdlo was referee. TUKAPA (24) v. INGLEWOOD (3). Tukapa journeyed to Inglewood yesterday to play the Inglewood seniors. In the first spell Tukapa played just anyhow, and Inglewood led by three points (a try by Karalus) to nil, at half-time. In the second spell Stohr scored three tries and kicked three goals; Davidson scored twice and Mynott once. Mr. G. Hopkins was the referee. The final football match between teams from the Ohura District Football Club and the Stratford-Ongarue Railway Public Works, for Mr. L. Klee’s silver cup, took place at Whangamomona recently, and is considered to bo the best game witnessed during the season. It was a hard-fought contest, the Ohura team finally proving victorious by six points to five.
