The Government Meteorologist telegraphed lias afternoon :—Sontli-cast-eriv strong winds to gale; weather cool and changeable; .rain probable, and probably a frost to-nignt; glass rise slowly.
Sergeant Cullen, at present in charge of the local police station, retires on superannuation at the end of this montu. Tie will leave Stratford and make a holiday trip in the Dominion, but he has not yet decided where ho will settle down, though he lias decided to leave Stratford, which lie finds does not agree with bis health. Ho will be succeeded by Sergeant McNeeley, wlio joined the police force about 1897, and was promoted sergeant in 1900. After joining the force lie was in the late Inspector Hickson’s office in Auckland, and afterwards ho served under Inspector Cullen in Auckland. After being some time in the Commissioner’s office in Wellington, he again returned to Auckland, then going to the inspector’s office at Napier. Returning again to the Commissioners office, he was placed in Inspector Ellison’s office, Wellington, whore Sergeant McGuire, who met his death during the Rowrlka scare, was transferred to Palmerston.
