WRONGFUL IMPRISONMENT.
SEVENTEEN YEARS’ PENAL SERVITUDE. Paris, July 11. Charles Michaud, a peasant, has been awarded £I2OO compensation for seventeen years’ penal servitude ia French New Guinea for murdering a neighbouring farmer. The confession of another convict resulted in Michaud’s acquittal. Michaud is 46 years old, and his wife throughout believed him innocent. There was a tremendous ovation in Court when Michaud's innocence was proclaimed. It was also placarded in the Ambusson distiict and .inserted id the newspapers.
