(Per Press Association.) Levin, - July 4. Endeavours are being made in the various’ surrounding counties to obtain a guarantee from the various specified districts towards the cost of acquiring the Foxtou wharves from the Government for the Foxtail Harbour Board. The Levin Borough Council discussed the matter last night on a proposal to guarantee £25 per annum on account of the necessary expenditure of £27,000, but it was resolved to defer voting until further information was available. A public meeting of the citizens of Levin last week affirmed the desirableness of erecting public baths at Levin' at a cost of £SOO, contigont on £SOO Government subsidy being, available. Last night the Borough Council again considered the proposal, and again threw it out by a majority of six to four. An amendment to raise Levin’s share of the expenditure by public {subscription was also rejected by the I Council. i .An independent effort is, being; made to-day to raise £250 by public •,subscription. Up to noon £6O had been subscribed.
