ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
' MAORI WOMAN KILLED, (Per Press Association ) Christchurch, July 1. A Maori woman, Mere Terei, aged 41, met her death under peculiar circumstances at Taumutu, Lake Ellesmere, yesterday. Operations for letting out the surplus waters of the lake were in progress, and a strong scour was running through the culverts. The woman intended to cross the culvert, but the bank gave way, and she was sicked down into a deep hole and suffocated with sand and water. It took a gang of men three hours to recover the body.
