AN OLD GRIEVANCE. (Per Press Association ) Tirnaru, Juno 26. Sir J. Carroll, Native Minister, met a gathering of South Island Maoris at Arowhcnui to-day, and was congratulated by whites and natives on receiving his title. At the Maori village lie was given a native welcome . The visit had been desired, as. the members of the Ngatimamoc and Ngaitahu tribes had a long-stand-ing grievance to put before him. They allege that when the tribes ceded twenty million acres of Canterbury and Otago reserves, an area equal to one-tenth was agreed to bo made for them, and ibis had. never been clone. The Minister said the matter was concerned with a period long before the time of the present Government.
