AMUSEMENTS.
WEST’S PICTURES. The above company, which showed its weekly change of programme in the Town Hall last night, had an unfortunate experience. After Atwo or three pictures had been shown the machine began to stop working periodically, and after a rather long wait tho .’management decided, about a quarter past nine, to _ abandon the performance. The audience were returned their money and given passes for next Wednesday’s performance. Tho machine in use is entirely new and the stoppage was caused by something which could not be located last night. The pictures, which were successfully shown, were of a high order, “A Woman’s Love” (dramatic) and “The Chimney-sweep’s Boy” (comic) being especially good. . A fresh programme will be submitted next Wednesday, when ' the management trust the machine will be iff 'good working order. HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE. The weekly change of programme was screened at His Majesty’s Theatre last night before an excellent audience. “Crossing the Equator” was a fine picture, showing in detail the “high jinks” indulged in by Father Neptune and his merry men, when the line is being crossed. “Animated Putty” was a highly diverting picture, a piece of putty seemingly forming itself into a number of different objects. Among the dramatic films, “Auld Robin Gray,” “The Man and the Law.” (a vivid Court incident), and 'htfeah and the Waif” "(a: story 6f> a childless couple’s Christmas) wore worthy of special mention. A fine sot of views round Chioggia were also shown. In the comic department “The Statue Dog,” “The Mystery of the Torn Note,” and “Curing a Master” were all good. ■ During me evening the result of tire guessing competition was announced, Miss O’Kaner being the winner.
