Representatives of New Zealand .Methodists and Primitive Alethodists have been sitting in Wellington* - :i.U day' considering the question of the union of tho two churches. The proceedings were held in private, tho respective presidents of the two churches being president alternately. An unofficial report is that good progress has been made. Over cno season tickets for subscribers alone were disposed of in Wellington loony for Dr. Harris;?.’ Sheffield Choir concerts. Dr. Harris arrived at Fremantle yesterday and had met Sir Joseph and lauly hard in the King’s tea-room at the Crystal Palace before leaving England. Over ?0T) season tickets were sold in Auckland to-day. BIG COAI PENSATION AWARDED. AA r cllington, Last Night. The hearing of Eliza Jane Baillie’s claim for £2OOO damages from the Harbor Board in respect of the death or her husband, John Patrick BaiMic, on the Glasgow wharf in November last, was concluded to-day before Air. Justice Sim and a special jury of twelve. Plaintiff was awarded £1250. Certain nonsuit points were reserved. PRODUCE INSPECTOR AITOTNTAIENT. AVcllington, Last Night. The Government has appointed Air. W. E. Gwillim, now chief dairy produce grader at Wellington, to go to London and inspect the handling of the New Zealand dairy produce in England, so as to keep producers in touch with the requirements of the market and investigate complaints regarding quality. INCIPIENT STRIKE. Timaru, Last Night. A temporary strike of wharf ’ hands loading the Tokomaru caused the loss of a few hours to-day. The union secretary explains that some young unmarried uicu joined the union in the morning and were put on, whilst two old members, capable workers, were left out. This was .supposed to he due to these men being prominent in tho union. The men resented this, and all ceased work. After some deputationising, the US. and A. Co.’s manager put on the two men in addition, and work was resumed. The men said they had been in an irritable frame of mind through being kept waiting after the ship had been made fast and not being told when the work would begin. THIEVING SAILORS. Wellington, Last Night. At the Alagistrate’s Court to-day two seamen, named Patrick Connolly arm William Cattcrmolc, were charged with stealing 41 brass tapes from the steamer Drayton Grange. They pleaded guilty, and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. MOKAD LANDS. FIRST BLOCK TO BE THROWN OPEN IN JULY. (Per Press Association.) Palmerston N.. Last Night. The directors of the jAlokau ’Coal and Estate Company at a meeting to-night, determined, in order to ensure prompt settlement of tho first block on its estate, to have 10,000 acres ' subdivided and thrown open for sale at the end of July, requiring only ten per cent, of the purchase money.
