WAITARA-URENUI RAILWAY.
At the Clifton County Council meeting yesterday tho following motion was carried : “That the attention of the Government he called to tho groat desirability of a railway between A aitara and Ground for tho following reasons: (J) That tho ordinary traffic on the; main road between I rerun and Waitara lias increased to such proportions as to make a railway a matter of necessity ; (2) that, the district lias increased rapidly in tho past, and in view of pending developments of great importance, the establishment of the railway is thoroughly warranted; (3) that the cost, of maintaining tho road owing to the abnormal traffic, and great scarcity of suitable metal, imposes, an unfair burden on the Clifton County Council, whoso financial resources are exhausted in endeavouring to keep the road open for provincial traffic.” It was also resolved to ask the Mayor of Waitara to call a puoli" meeting to pass a resolution on the subject.
