RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD.
■usa* A FIREMAN'S DISMISSAL. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. An appeal against dismissal was the subject of a hearing by the North Island Railway Appeal Board to-day. The appellant was Joseph William Hanghie, late fireman and acting engine-driver at Cross Creek, and the alleged ground of his dismissal was his failure to come on duty at the proper time and his intoxicated condition rendering him unlit to take charge of an engine. The Board comprised Dr. McArthur, S.AI. (chairman). Messrs C. P. Ryan (representing tiie first division) and C. G. Lac (representing tin l second division). Mr. I’. I). Clarke represented appellant, and Auditor H. Davidson was the departmental advocate. A great deal of evidence was heard regarding appellant’ll conditions ami appearance when lie was suspended. Haiurhie, on oath, declared that his imnsmil stale, was due to lack of sleep and illness, though he did not think' of mentioning this to (ho locomotive foreman when he was accused of drunkenness. The Board reserved its decision, which will be forwarded to. the Alinister of Railways.
