MAHOE NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.l On Friday, next the Mahon lln3l Committee is holding a* grand soeial in aid of the Hall funds. .During the evening competitions of all descriptions will ho held such as sawing, naildriving, guessing, and shooting. Good prizes will ho given to the winner of each event. The Committee is sparing no pains to make the social a huge success, and it is confidently expected it will eclipse all previous socials. Mr Astbury is expected home this week after a fortnight’s holiday in Raugitikei and Manawat.u districts. Many and favourable were the comments heard na the enterprise of the proprietors of the “Evening Post” in bringing forth an eight-page journal, which is. a fitting tribute to the advancement and progress of the district. The local school grounds have boon much improved lately. An energetic working lice, organised by the headmaster, has succeeded in clearing away all stumps and logs, and it is the intention of the Committee to have the grounds planted with flowering and ornamental shrubs. A very painful accident, on Monday, happened to tlie two-year-old son of Mr A. Colson. It appears that Mrs Colson left a bowl of _ boiling water on a chair, and while she went, to refill the kettle the little fellow upset the bowl, and the contents badly scalded Ins left arm, side, and leg. Dr. Tovey, of Kaponga, was at once sent lor, and was soon on the scene to attend and dress the wounds of the little sufferer, who, I am pleased to say, is progressing favourably.
