Miss Eva Dawson, Glencoe, has left for Christchurch to join the W.A.A.C.
Miss M. Todd, Dunedin, is the guest of Mrs W. S. Todd, Thomson street. Miss L. Millow, Invercargill, is the guest of her sister, Mrs S. Cross, Temuka. Mr and Mrs W. R. Sinclair and Mr and Mrs E. Y. Smith, Dunedin, have returned from a holiday visit to the Rocks. Mrs R. T. Stewart, who has been the guest of Mrs C. F. A. Jones, Earnslaw street, has left on her return to Masterton.
Mrs J. L. Wicken, Reefton, who was the week-end guest of Mrs J. H. Young, Ettrick street, left yesterday on her return north.
Miss Margaret Macalister, of the staff of the Christchurch Hospital, arrived on Saturday to spend a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. B. Macalister, Wellesley Avenue. OBITUARY.—The death of Mrs W. Birnie occurred at her home, Hamilton street, East*Gore last week. Mrs Birnie was born 71 years ago, being the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Patrick Scott, of Waikoikoi. She was educated at the Waikoikoi school. Thirty-one years ago she married Mr William Birnie, the couple moving to Glenham, where Mr Birnie had secured a farm property. They remained at Glenham for 22 years, going to live at Gore about four and a-half years ago.
