WOMEN IN SERVICES

Increased Rates Of Pay

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, November 1. Higher rates of pay for non-com-missioned ranks in the women’s auxiliary services of the Navy, Army and Air Force are provided for in new regulations governing pay and conditions which have been approved by the War Cabinet. The daily rate of pay for qualified and unqualified personnel has been increased by sixpence, and in future no deduction is to be made from pay where quarters and rations are provided. Hitherto 1/1 a day, or 7/6, a week, was deducted from women living in barracks, so that the new rates represent in these cases an increase of 1/7 a day or 11/- a week. The subsistence allowance, which is payable if quarters and rations are not provided, is also increased from 2/6 to 3/- a day.
