ISSUE OF RATION BOOKS

A total of 743 ration books (554 ordinary and 189 children’s) was issued at the Chief Post Office, Invercargill, on Saturday morning. This brought the total number of books issued at Invercargill to 29,053, and since it was estimated that the number of books to be issued in the Invercargill food area, which includes the city and adjacent rural districts, would be about 30,000, it is clear that nearly every person in this area must have his or her book for the new ration period which began yesterday. In addition to the ration books 167 sheets of special clothing coupons for children between the ages of five and 17 years were issued on Saturday morning.
