DRIVERS’ DISPUTE SETTLED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 30. A full settlement has been reached in the Court of Arbitration in the Dominion motor and horse drivers’ dispute. Twenty-seven clauses were in dispute when the case was called and an adjournment was taken to enable the parties to confer and reduce the scope of the dispute. When the Court resumed the workers’ advocate, Mr F. C. Allenby, announced a complete settlement and applied to the Court for what was agreed on to be made into an award. The employers’ advocate, Mr W. E. Anderson, endorsed that statement. Mr Justice Tyndall paid a tribute to the conciliatory attitude of the parties’ representatives. The new award will differ from the old award principally in the method of computing overtime worked over a 40-hour week. The wages paid by licensed operators have been adjusted, in relation to the wages paid to other drivers. The seasonal work clause has been clarified. The terms of the award is two years.
