Sporting TROTTING CUP TODAY

ACCEPTANCES AND PROSPECTS An improvement in the weather last night made the prospects for today’s trotting meeting at Invercargill much better. The wind would have a good drying effect, and if there is no rain this morning the track should be in fair order. Interest in the Invercargill Trotting Cup quickened with the arrival last night of the favourite, Scottish Air. The young U. Scott mare has taken on the mantle of a champion and the sight of her in action will be sufficient to attract many racegoers to the course. She has certainly dominated ante-post calculations and she promises to go to the post one of the warmest favourites ever to have contested the Invercargill Cup. The possibility of a division in the first race, the Novice Handicap, has been removed by the reported scratching last night of Perth, who was coupled in the race-book with Aussie Boy. That defection will leave 15 horses on the limit mark, the number of the safety limit. Perth will probably be started in the Takitimu Handicap, an event for saddle horses. Clonard, the Gore-trained gelding owned by Mrs A. M. Ischia, has come into favour for a place in the Invercargill Trotting Cup. Clonard is a Jack Potts gelding whose performances as a four-year-old suggested his racing into cup class in quick time. In all there are 13 brackets on the card.
