Large Sum Of Money

Raised

The success of the visit to Southland of the band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force was mentioned by speakers at a meeting of the Southland Provincial Patriotic Council yesterday. The Mayor of Gore (Mr W. D. Shelton) said £350 had been raised through the visit of the band to Gore. Mr P. L. Hodge, chairman of the Invercargill Metropolitan Committee, said that 70 recruits to different branches of the Air Force had offered their services as a result of the recruiting rally and £l2OO was in sight fcr patriotic funds from the efforts associated with the visit to Invercargill. Mr Hodge expressed appreciation of the support accorded the Victory Art Union by the country zones. It was felt that the country committees had not received the books early enough and that had militated against the success of the country effort. Mr Shelton said the Eastern Zone I Committee considered that a substantial i sum of money could be raised if a separate Eastern Southland radio appeal could be arranged.
