NEW RATION BOOKS
Slightly more than 2.000 new ration books had been issued 'by the special staff of the Gore Post Office up to yesterday morning. The staff experienced a fairly busy day yesterday, but so far the response to the appeal to obtain new books as early as possible has not been very good. Between 4000 and 5000 books still have to be issued. It is expected that there will be a rush during the next few days. CRIPPLED CHlLDREN.—Appreciation of the efforts of the women collectors in the house-to-house and street day appeal for the Crippled Children Society was expressed by members at a meeting of the Eastern Southland branch of the society. It was decided that a vote of thanks be accorded all women collectors, as well as others in town and country, who had worked splendidly to bring the appeal to a successful conclusion.
