Late News CONFIDENCE IN AUSTRALIA
REPORTS ON BATTLE IN SOLOMONS (Rec. 2.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, October 28. The general demeanour of members of the War Council after a meeting tonight seemed to suggest a quiet confidence in the outcome of the Battle of tire Solomons, says the Canberra correspondent of the Australian United Press. The Deputy Prime Minister, Mr F. M. Forde, said the Cabinet had discussed reports submitted by the service chiefs on the campaigns in New Guinea, the Solomons and the Middle East. For security reasons he could not disclose the contents of the reports. ( The correspondent adds: It. is understood that reports received in Australia indicate there is no justification for pessimism as to the outcome of the Solomons battle.”
