SOUTHLAND MUSEUM.— The popularity of the Southland Museum is shown in the attendance figures for the last 11 weeks. In that period 4368 persons visited the museum, an average of almost 400 each week. In the same period gifts for exhibition have been received from 17 persons. The latest list of gifts include an old teapot given by Miss Scales (Invercargill) and geological specimens found at Clifden, given by Mr A. F. Duthie.
CHIMNEY FIRES.— The City Fire Brigade received two calls to chimney fires yesterday. The first was at 3.10 p.m. to the residence of Miss M. F. Reynolds, 159 Don street, and the second was to a house in Janet street from which the occupants were absent. Both fires were extinguished by means of a bucket pump before any damage was done.
