Nightglass has run some of her best races at Motukarara and she added to her record with an easy win in the Highweight Handicap. It was her first success since March, when she won on the same course, but her form this season has been consistent. The first division of the Trial Plate saw Winning Agnes out clear early but Supercharge finished too well, beating her comfortably by a neck. Winner is the Phaleron Bay-Golden Rod two-year-old owned and trained by Mrs C. Pankhurst at Riccarton. He is a big colt and a promising sort. Junior, who had failed to stay six furlongs earlier in the season, showed his appreciation of the shorter journey by leading practically all the way in the Second Division for a decisive win. Royal Rae, who was second, has been in work only a few weeks and must improve. All Night repeated his Washdyke form by leading all the way in the Rangiora Cup. Eulogist and Good Scout moved up to him about five furlongs from home, but they were in trouble when the straight was reached, and dropping back. Then Lord Advocate put in his claim, but though he beat the others easily he could not get near All Night, whose performance was impressive. , Stormy Petrel, after exhibiting speed came home solidly to beat the pacemaker, Silver Mask, in the Oxford Hack Handicap. It was his first good race since he won at Ashburton nearly a year ago. Last Effort was travelling very fast in third place and would have been hard to beat could he have got clear in the straight. Straight Bat was always handy in the Dr T. A. Will Memorial Handicap and stayed on to win comfortably. Straight Bat had shown no form in two earlier races this season but should do better as she has brilliant speed. Sham Boy was unlucky early but finished weU, narrowly beating Dinah Dhu who will improve. The favourite, St. Cloud, failed to come on and Hurry Girl met interference. Last Effort made amends in the Femside Hack Handicap for his earlier defeat by leading all the way and winning easily. He is a good sort likely to stay. Milton Abbas and Nightglass were always handy and Kevin came along late to divide this pair in a good finish for the places.
