YUGOSLAV HONOUR FOR NEW ZEALAND AIRMEN

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 24. Confirmation of tile report from London that the Order of the Crown of Yugoslavia has been awarded to Flying Officers John Austin Henry Smith, formerly of Dannevirke, and Samuel Jackson Madill, formerly of Kohimarama, Auckland is contained in official advice received by Air Headquarters, Wellington. No details of the exploits in which the recipients earned their awards have been given. Flying Officer Madill was bom in Auckland in 1913 and educated at King’s School and King’s College, Auckland. He entered the Royal New Zealand Air Force towards the end of 1940 and left New Zealand early in 1941. He gained the rank of pilot officer at the end of his Canadian training and was promoted to flying officer in June of this year. His father is Mr W. H. Madill, of Auckland. Flying Officer Smith was bom in Hastings in 1920 and received his secondary education at Dannevirke High School. He was accepted for service in the Royal New Zealand Air Force in 1939 and on completing training in Canada was commissioned last year being promoted to his present rank in June of this year. His father is Mr W. A. Smith, of Dannevirke.
