U.S. OIL SUPPLIES

Warning Of Coming Crisis

(Rec. 7.45 p.m.) WASHINGTON, October 22.

A warning that the United States is facing an oil crisis similar to the rubber and steel crisis because of the Government’s unco-ordinated methods of dealing with petroleum problems was given by the Senate Public Lands Committee.

“The United States is burning up the oil content of a major oilfield every five days,” states the committee. “The armed services are using unimaginable supplies of oil and their needs next year will be doubled. In addition, the United States is becoming the oil source for the United Nations as the Axis captures foreign supplies.”
